Prepared food is suspect

Stepped foot into a favored coffee shop up here in Northern Wisconsin. I’m the guy who buys a light roast coffee or espresso shots. But every once in awhile I wonder about trying other foods and beverages.

I’ve already established that nearly all their food contains dairy, soy, or wheat. Wheat is the core issue for me, albeit if I eat copious amounts of dairy or soy, I’ll also have a bad day or two. Generally I avoid, since it’s easy to overdo it unless militant about average daily intakes of these ingredients.

I asked to look at any of their sugar free and regular coffee syrups. Both contained wheat and soy. I don’t know why they’re in there the staff didn’t know either.

At restaurants I typically fast, or plan my life around avoiding them.

Relying on friends or family to get it right doesn’t work either. It’s a lot of work to vet every ingredient, ensure cookery is clean and free of contaminants, and maintain allergen-free preparation areas.

I’ve been cooking every single meal that I eat for years. This gets tiresome but the alternative is worse. The alternative is having a bad day or week because of things outside of my knowledge or control.

…So I stick to black coffee.
