Short technical field notes on systems weirdness

I formerly weighed 100 pounds heavier

I find myself often explaining that I used to be a porky dude. Eight years ago, you’d find me a jolly Santa. Knees were often quite sore. I never felt super great.

I remember trying myFitnessPal to track calories. Calorie counting reduced my 280lbs to a reasonable 250lbs within a couple months.

Then the food intolerance started. I felt hungry all the time, despite eating loads of food. This ended up being fairly serious as I dropped from 250 lbs to 210lbs. It took drastic, radical decision making to regain caloric stability. Mostly super strict elimination diet. As a casualty, I began refusing most food that wasn’t prepared by my own hand.

Cutting alcohol out completely further dropped my weight from 210 to 180lbs.

Exercise and cutting out most junk food dropped me from 180 to 160lbs. I’m 6'1".

Though, I’ve rubberbanded just a smidge from 160 to 175lbs. I have been oscillating between 160 and 170 lbs for awhile. It’s my current weight band. Besides, weight is not a discrete value, it is continuous!

Based on my own tribulations, I estimate that my own weight was mostly a result of lifestyle — what I ate, how I moved, and what foods I ’tolerated’. In my case, fixing those inputs improved some aspects of my day-to-day life.
