Gamma 2 lids: enshittified?

Went to stow spent canned fish packaging in my trash bucket.

The lid wouldn’t budge. The threads had seized.

I keep trash in sealed buckets so smells don’t escape into whatever space I’m living in — hotel room, van, apartment, etc.

These buckets use Gamma screw lids. The older ones were stiff enough that you could sit on them without deforming the threads.

The new Gamma2 lids feel different. The plastic is softer and more pliant.

That seems like a manufacturing optimization: less brittle plastic, probably easier molding.

But it’s the wrong material for a threaded part.

The lid deforms slightly under load and the threads jam into each other.

Couldn’t pry the lid out, so I’ll have to take some heat to the lid to unseize it. Or destructively grind it out.

Looks like I’ll be searching on eBay for new-old-stock of the originals or an alternate manufacturer.
